My post today is about the addictions of the mind. For some of us, prone to obsession for anything tech, the information age offers a plethora of drugs for the mind. Technology has been a predominant force in my life since I was a very small child, be it a walkman, gameboy, MMORPGs, or Call of Duty, the mind which wants to wander and escape reality will find an enticing exit in technology. This is not the case for everyone, and I am not saying technology, or gaming, is inherently bad, but I have become a firm believer that a balanced lifestyle will bring greater happiness and success than a life of constant obsession with the newest, most engaging technology or virtual experience. This principle equally applies to any activity or life experience such as school, work, religion, sports, etc. I find that for so many of us, unbridled use of technology is pernicious and people need to be taught how to leverage technology for good, like driving a car, before too much damage is done.
I agree that anything, not just technology, has the potential to get out of control if we aren't carefully assessing its role in our lives and making changes as necessary.
